What is thermal power generation?
Release Time:
03 Apr,2019
Thermal power generation utilizes the thermal energy obtained from burning fuel (coal, oil, and their products, etc.) to generate electricity. Thermal power generation units have two main forms: using a boiler to generate high-temperature, high-pressure steam to drive a steam turbine, which in turn drives a generator to produce electricity, known as a steam turbine generator unit; and fuel entering a gas turbine directly converts thermal energy into mechanical energy to drive a generator to produce electricity, known as a gas turbine generator unit. Thermal power plants generally refer to power plants primarily using steam turbine generator units.
Thermal power plants mainly consist of four key components: boiler, steam turbine, condenser, and generator. Fuel combustion converts chemical energy into thermal energy to heat the water in the boiler into steam. Then, the steam's thermal energy drives the steam turbine to do work, converting thermal energy into mechanical energy. Finally, the mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy through the generator, completing the entire power generation process.
