To conserve water resources and reduce pollution, dry cooling towers and combined dry/wet cooling towers are now widely used in the power, petroleum, chemical, coking, metallurgical, and new energy + energy storage industries, replacing the previous wet cooling towers.

Cooling towers are classified according to the contact method of water and air: ① Wet cooling tower; ② Dry cooling tower; ③ Combined dry/wet cooling tower.

A dry cooling tower is a cooling tower in which the condenser cooling water does not directly contact the air. In areas with severe water shortages, a dry cooling system can be used. Dry cooling towers mainly consist of heat dissipation coils, fans, air ducts, air distribution devices, and tower bodies. Some dry cooling towers also have water spraying devices on the heat dissipation coils, including a spray water distribution system, filter, sump, and spray water pump, to improve heat exchange efficiency.

A combined dry/wet cooling tower is a combination of a wet tower and a dry tower. The purpose of using this type of tower is partly to save water, but mostly to eliminate the condensation of saturated air discharged from the tower outlet, thus causing pollution around the tower.

A wet cooling tower is one of the heat exchange methods between water and air in cooling towers. Air flowing over the water surface directly contacts the water, transferring heat to the air through contact heat transfer and evaporative heat dissipation. This cooling method is called a wet cooling tower. Wet cooling towers have high heat exchange efficiency. However, water is lost due to evaporation; wind also causes water loss. These water losses must be continuously replenished with sufficient new water. Therefore, wet cooling towers must have a water source for water replenishment.

Generally speaking, wet cooling towers have a small volume, high efficiency, and high operating costs. Conversely, dry cooling towers have a large volume, low efficiency, and low operating costs. Combined dry/wet cooling towers combine the advantages of both, saving water and having low operating costs, and are now widely used.

Our company has operating achievements in Jiayuguan and Zhangye, Gansu Province, with obvious effects, and the operating and water-saving effects have been praised by customers.
